I did a google search for "tech addiction", and came across your blog post. I have been struggling with the same balance of geekery and the real world all my life. This post is eerily similar to my own thoughts. Although recently I have changed career paths to one where there is almost no technology at all, very traditional, and no place for a geek. I find it difficult to hide what I know and play dumb when a question or problem turns to tech.

I have tried many time to break the leash, dumping almost everything related to electronic gadgetry and computers on several occasions. Only to find it creeping back in. I wonder if you experience this as well.
With the career change this should be easier, I also switched almost completely over the the mac which has helped. Until I discovered the OSX86 scene and now have 2 hackintoshes.

I think I am ready for another purge, hopefully this one is more successful.

Good luck!
